Giant Zoetropes

One of our dream projects has come true! With The Lost Picture Show and masterful designer Rich Zlotnicki we have built a giant zoetrope for workshops.

The zoetrope is pre-animation device that was invented in the 1860s that produces the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion. It literally means the ‘wheel of life’.

It is a really fun way of introducing kids to simple animation techniques and early cinema. We created both small zoetrope animation strips that could be worked on individually and a few large ones for the giant zoetrope in groups.

We have travelled the Zoetrope to Granary Square, London and Shambala Festival.
