Lightbox Cinema at Curzon Renoir

In 2010 at Curzon Renoir, children were invited to scratch, scour, and scrape away the black emmulsion on 35mm black leader and doodle, smudge and pattern with paint and felt tip pens on clear 35mm leader. When played back through the projector their patterns came alive, dancing across the screen, as in this wonderful video documentation of the workshop shows. The workshop was inspired by the early experimental films of Len Lye (to find out more about Len Lye please visit the Len Lye section of the website). It was this workshop that won Drawing Inspiration Awards Highly Commended Award, at The Big Draw Festival 2010. Many thanks to Lucy Pawlak for her lovely documentary film of the workshop.
